“A Man Called Ahok” Releases Its First Tease

Jakarta, PINUS PRESS – Adapted from a novel of the same title, the movie “A Man Called Ahok” has just released its first trailer during the press conference at Metropole XXI, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (6/9/18).

The book gain popularity when it was being sold by Ahok’s gubernatorial campaign team as part of its fundraising. After the right was secured, Putrama Tuta was to take the helm of director.

Putrama went to Rutan Mako Brimob a number of times during the movie production. According to him, Ahok responded well and appreciated the effort.

Daniel Mananta, Indonesian television host and actor is set to play the titular character. This movie will mark the actor’s debut in acting as a main role.

“This is a big role for me. I admit, I was able to play a supporting role in Rumah Dara, but this is different.” told Daniel.

Asides from Daniel, other actors and actresses that are confirmed be be in the movie are Denny Sumargo, Chew Kin Wah, Sita Nursanti, Donny Damara, Ferry Salim, Eriska Rein, dan Jill Gladys.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama ‘Ahok’ is a well-known political figure in Indonesia. His method of hard leadership brings both praise and controversy from public. While serving as the governor of Jakarta, he was sentenced to jail for blasphemy in 9th May 2017.

Most of the movie will be set in Eastern Belitung. Putrama is not interested in telling a story about politic or about Ahok’s recent endeavors.

“I want to tell something that most people don’t know yet, for example how Ahok’s character was built so that he became what he is now. Not about his current conflicts.”  told the director.

The movie will tell Ahok’s childhood years in Gatong, Eastern Belitung from 1976 until he was appointed as the Regent of Eastern Belitung in 2005. Despite this, Putrama reinstates that the movie’s focus will be on the father-son relationship between Ahok and his father, Tjoeng Kiem Nam.
